2.5 Homework 9A and 9G

Homework is due on Monday 3 December.

(Don’t worry, you haven’t missed a homework - remember you had SATs so I gave you two weeks for the last homework!)

I would like you to visit the Year 9 wiki. There is a space there for you to add questions and add answers, or improve the answer that has already been given.

Please let me know today in your lesson if you will find it difficult to access the internet before next week, so we can try to arrange something so you can complete this homework.

Remember, everyone in the world can read your wiki entry, so you will need to be careful what you write! Other schools are interested in the work we are trying to do with this blog and with our wikis, so remember that you are trendsetters and we need to make sure that we do work online that the whole school can be proud of!

More homework help!

First of all, I hope you have all been revising for your SATs next week! Perhaps you have managed to get your RE homework out of the way already - but just in case, here are some links to help you with your research! (Remember to keep a bibliography, or at least a list of references, showing which webpages and books you have visited and used in your research.)

RE Online - Search page asks you to choose a religion then enter a key word (eg holy book, worship) into the search box. Then you will be taken to a page of links.

Religion for Schools - an overview of each of the world religions.

RE-XS for Schools - more links on each of the world religions.

BBC World Religions page - Follow the links to find a clear resume of each religion. There is also a link to worksheets that have some fun activities and recipes that you might want to have a look at if you would like a change from revising from your SATs - or perhaps if you want to relax next weekend and cook up some peppermint creams for your family to thank them for helping you with your revision over this weekend!

Hope these help. I know you’ll be able to find others. I look forward to seeing your booklets next week!

2.3 Homework - 9A and 9G

Homework is due on Monday 26 November.

In the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at other religions, considering such questions as “Why are there so many different religions?”, “What does the Catholic Church have to say about other religions?”, “How can we know if any religion is ‘true’?”, “Do religions cause conflict?”, “What do religions have in common?”, and “What can we learn from other religions?”

Your homework is to choose a world religion other than any denomination of Christianity, and produce a fact sheet / leaflet on that religion.

Some of the topics that you could include:

What is the view of God held by that religion?
How do they worship?
What are their main beliefs?
Describe their place of worship.
Explain how they treat their holy books.
What do they believe about life after death?
What do they believe about other religions?

Your leaflet / fact sheet should also include a task at the end that will help the reader demonstrate what they have learnt through reading your resource.

I look forward to be excited by your great work and your research skills!

Remember to include a bibliography that lists the books and websites you consulted to help you complete this task. You can also include conversations with people who have helped you.

2.2 Homework - 9A and 9G

Homework due on Monday 12 November.

This term’s topic, the Spiritual Quest, deals with many of the big questions people have about life. Your homework is to think of some questions that you have about God, religion and the meaning of life, and choose the best one to write on a question mark, which you should decorate and we will use as part of a display.

Your question should include some evidence to explain why you choose that question, for example: “Many people believe in life after death. Some people believe you go to heaven or hell, others believe in reincarnation. Considering the fact that no one has ever died and come back to tell us about what happens, why do some people believe in life after death?”

I will give you the question mark outlines in class.
